Birthday Parties

FAQ

Can I have pizza delivered?
Yes, many local restaurants deliver here.

Can I bring food or ice cream?
Yes, you can bring any kind of food you want to.  You have access to a refrigerator and a freezer during your party.  Please remember that you need to supply your own paper products to serve whatever food you decide to bring.  Alcohol is not allowed for the adults at the party.

Can I come early to set up?
There is only a limited amount of time between our birthday party time slots, during which our staff also needs to clean up and set up.  We recommend you arrive 10 minutes prior to the start of your party.

Can I decorate the room?
You can bring decorations, however, the kids attending the party are usually most interested in visiting the science center and do not spend the majority of the time in the party room, plus as mentioned above set up time is limited so it is not recommended that you purchase a lot of decorations.

I have more than one adult per child.  What is the cost for the extra adults.
Extra adults are charged the regular $8 admission price.  The room is limited in size, so it is not recommended that you have many more adults than children.

There are some younger siblings coming: what is the cost for them?
If the child is going to receive a balloon, goodie bag and astronaut ice cream, they are charged the same price as all the other children at the party.  If they are over age three but are too young to receive the goodie bag, balloon and astronaut ice cream, they will be charged the regular $8 admission price.  If the child is under age three, they will be admitted free and will not receive the party items.

Do we have to leave at the end of our allotted time?
All items must be removed from the party room at the end of your allotted party time.  You and your guests may choose to continue to visit in the SEE Science Center.  Parties which end at 4:45pm must leave at 5pm which is the closing time for the center.

Are there organized activities?
There are no exclusive programmed activities for a birthday party.  However, the SEE Science Center has three exhibits which we demonstrate for visitors: the moonwalk for children 70 lbs or less to feel what it like to jump on the moon; the Van de Graff static electricity generator; and the harmonograph drawing machine which demonstrates Newton’s laws of motion.  Once all guests for your party have arrived, you can inform the staff that you are ready for demonstrations and inform them which demonstrations interest your group.  The staff will make sure your party can view the demonstrations together as a group.  These demonstrations are not exclusive, and your group may be joined by other visitors to the science center.  After your demonstrations, you can divide your time as you wish between the birthday party room and exploring in the science center.  Children must be supervised by adults from the party at all times.

How soon should I book?
Parties are booked on a first come first serve basis. Party slots are rarely booked more than two months in advace but begin to fill up four to six weeks in advance depending on the time of year. We have been able to book parties as little as a week in advance, so it never hurts to call.
